New research suggests there is a link between diet and bipolar disorder.
Sugar, caffeine and a poor diet appear to have a negative effect on sufferers and to increase mood swings. A good, balanced diet including plenty of omega 3, magnesium and vitamin B seems to minimise the intensity and frequency of mood swings.
The research was carried out by Evanne Constantine and Wesley Freeman-Smith, who presented their findings at the 17 Annual BACP Research Conference in May 2011. For further information email the research department at the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy at research@bacp.co.uk
