“The creation of symbolic meaning on the path to individuation”

This webinar will be transmitted live from Zurich and London over the internet on Fri 24 June or, alternatively, can be downloaded at a later date. The speakers, both Jungian analysts, are Murray Stein from the University of Zurich and Warren Coleman (editor-in-chief of the Journal of Analytical Psychology).

C. G. Jung wrote extensively on symbols and symbolic processes. The subject of this seminar will be what these mean and how they function in the development of the individual and of culture. Participants will be able to join discussions on

- comparing traditional and contemporary Jungian thought about symbols and their place in psychotherapy

- analysing the creation, use and misuse of symbols in cultural and personal life

- the creation of symbolic meaning

- symbolic processes in psychotherapy

- new conceptualisations in analytical psychology and their impact on symbols and the creation of symbolic meaning.

Suggested reading includes A Ronnenberg’s “The Book of Symbols” (2010) and Jung’s “The Symbolic Life” paras 608-696.
